Fourteen years ago this month, Mikie Hayes, had been working for a cosmetic at a local store when she got an offer from FACES that she couldn’t ignore. She took the job and has been an integral team member and manager ever since. One of the earliest faces of FACES, Mikie’s dedication to the DaySpa speaks to her overall caring and compassionate disposition, and highlights a simple truth: Mikie loves extending her hand to others and interacting with people.
In addition to being the team leader at the front desk, one of the first warm smiles to be greeted with upon entering the boutique DaySpa, Mikie’s other primary responsibility is ordering from different skin care lines. Since starting in 2002, she has seen the evolution of products over the years to what FACES has now. While she couldn’t say enough about FACES own product line, especially the cleansers and triple C&E serum, Mikie was equally enthusiastic about some of the newest lines, including Eminence and Voya. “Both are remarkable natural and organic lines that we selected because at FACES, we like to be as pure as can be.”
To Mikie, the best part about working at FACES is the commendable ownership and tight-knit co-worker environment. Although she has seen the staff change over the years, she commented that there’s an unbelievable group camaraderie allowing her to feel like she’s with family. “You don’t find that in corporate, or you don’t find that with larger stores. And I really like that part.”
One of Mikie’s other favorite things about working at FACES is incredibly proud of is that the DaySpa tries to be as green as can be. “Every time someone brings in an empty can,” she mentioned, “whether it’s a Lancôme empty or one of FACES own containers, the person can get 15% off anything on the FACES line. We bag up all of the recyclables and ship them out. It’s a small way that we at FACES do our part for the environment.”
Before leaving the DaySpa, Mikie offers her assistance in helping clients find the appropriate products for their skin, and she always offers an invitation for a future appointment. Having seen many people walk in and out of the doors, she knows firsthand the secret to skincare success. “Diligence is the key,” Mikie says, “I like to remind people that if it didn’t happen overnight, it doesn’t get fixed overnight, but diligence and continual care is the best thing one can do for themselves.”
At the end of the day, Mikie says that her mission is striving to go forward making people happy whether in their skin care, relieving stress, or both. And I can assure you she does just that!
Now esthetician manager and assistant spa manager, Tanya Hagedorn started out by working the front desk of FACES DaySpa a little over 10 years ago. Through her interaction with the other estheticians between treatments, she fell in love with the skin care industry and decided to go back to school to get her license so she could become an esthetician herself. For Tanya, the passion and drive always came from within. She always liked experimenting with makeup as a child, but never knew the extent to what was involved in the skincare industry until coming to FACES.
While she specializes in just about everything – whether it’s anti-aging, acne care, or waxing – Tanya is especially good with treating teenagers’ skin. She said it’s because she loves to educate and then reap the rewards by watching them blossom in their own skin. “Sixteen-year-olds in high school can be mean and rude, and having bad skin affects their lives in so many ways. I love watching girls transform from being self-conscious teenagers to suddenly not having an issue anymore.”
One of the ways that Tanya educates throughout her treatment is by giving very detailed home care advice. “Home care is the most important part” she said, “Not taking care of your skin at home is like going to the dentist and not brushing your teeth in between appointments.” First, Tanya likes to find out what people are using at home because she has found over the years that a lot of problems stem from using harsh ingredients. When this is the case, Tanya has to repair the outer skin’s barrier area before she can even address the acne.
If homecare isn’t your forte, getting that initial facial isn’t something to shy away from. There is a course of action for any skin type, and the rewards to your skin and overall health far exceed the cost of diligence and time. This is something Tanya admitted to knowing well, because she grew up with cystic acne throughout high school. After much persuasion, she finally tried the clear skin from the FACES product line, and in addition to using the pore cleanser and an oil free moisturizer, her skin cleared instantly. On a personal level, Tanya is one of the reasons I’ve been coming to FACES for so many years, as her treatments and at home advice worked wonders for me as well.
What is most impressive is that the sweet and sunny esthetician manager has found that perfect balance between being a mother of two baby boys while working her part-time job. At the end of the day, however, she can’t get enough of both because caring for others is built into her genes. “I just really like helping people. I’ve been that way my entire life. And I love that FACES has allowed me to achieve that on a daily basis.”
